History

Charlotte Independence was founded in 2014, after acquiring the USL Pro League franchise rights from the Charlotte Eagles as they self-relegated to the Premier Development League. The Jacks remained with the second tier as it changed to the USL Championship League in 2019, and experienced their best finish in 2021, second in the Atlantic Division.

As MLS expansion side Charlotte FC began play in 2022, Charlotte Independence self-relegated to USL League One. There, the club made the playoffs in their first year as the 6th and final seed.

After several temporary homes, including Ramblewood Soccer Complex, UNC Charlotte and Winthrop University, and a failure to come to an agreement with the Sportsplex at Matthews, Charlotte Independence signed a ten year lease on newly refurbished Mecklenburg County owned American Legion Memorial Stadium, which runs through 2031.

Best finish: 4th (2023, USL-1); 2nd (2021, USL-C)
Playoff appearances: 2 (USL-1); 3 (USL-C, USL)
