History
Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC was founded in 2021 and joined USL League One for the 2022 season. The soccer world took notice as they defeated USL-C side Colorado Springs Switchbacks and MLS side Real Salt Lake to advance to the fourth round of the US Open Cup, only four competitive matches into their existence.
While awaiting a temporary home, Hailstorm FC had ten straight games on the road before finding homes at University of Northern Colorado’s Jackson Stadium, Colorado State University’s Canvas Stadium and Severance High School. Their long term stadium at Legends Sports Complex continues to experience delays, and the slated 2023 opening is questionable. Without a stable home, the club has struggled with attendance, averaging about 500 fans per match.
Despite the stadium struggles, the club found moderate success in their first season, barely missing the league playoffs with a 7th place finish.
