City Stadium opened in 1929 and has been the home of the Richmond Kickers since 1995. Over the years the stadium has hosted NCAA, high school, professional and semiprofessional football as well as NCAA soccer tournaments and two USMNT soccer matches. The Kickers have been the sole tenant since 2010. In 2017, the City of Richmond and the club agreed to a 40 year lease at $1 per year in return for the club exclusively maintaining and improving the facility and paying property taxes. The stadium can officially hold 22,611, but has been scaled down to 6,000 in recent years.
