After two seasons of change, Richmond Kickers unveiled a return to the classic red kit for the 2024 home season.
2022 saw the introduction of a green kit, and 2023 a black and red. And while fans didn’t hate either (disclosure: I’m a season ticket holder and own the black and red kit), there was a steady and growing call to bring back the red.
The club listened to the calls.
The Adidas branded “Seeing Red Kit,” it will debut at City Stadium for the home opener against Tormenta FC on March 23rd, and is now available for purchase through the team store.
The classic kit celebrates a long history of professional soccer in Richmond, with the Kickers having operated for over 30 years. The longest-continuously operated outdoor soccer club in the United States has used a red kit for a vast majority of its existence.
The color red is also at the core of the identity of the club’s main supporter group, the River City Red Army. Members were especially vocal over the last few years on bringing back the red identity to the team via the home kit.
Ukrop’s returns as the primary kit sponsor, along with secondary sponsors Bon Secours, ProspectBlue and Nightingale Ice Cream. Ukrop’s is the company founded by team president Rob Ukrop’s grandfather, now a distributor of baked goods and prepared meals to grocery stores across the mid-Atlantic.
Other clubs recently unveiling new kits include One Knoxville, which revealed its Sunsphere away kit on Wednesday night. Greenville, Northern Colorado and Chattanooga have reveals coming over the next two weeks as well.
Richmond Kickers start the 2024 season on the road at Spokane Velocity on March 16th before returning home to face South Georgia Tormenta FC on March 23rd. The Seeing Red Kit is on sale now via the team store, starting at $90.
